Uploading products via an excel sheet would be beneficial rather than uploading them one by one because it will save your time and efforts. If you would search Google then you will find several ways of doing this but today I am going to explain you the method called import feature. And the reason behind this is that it is considered a very difficult method without any guidance to quickly learn. But before I start I suggest you understand how product category and product attributes work in Magento. Creating attributes and attributes set to divide products into categories:-
Firstly, you have to create your attributes and attributes set for uploading products. Suppose you want to add some products which have some size features, you this “size” is an attribute and you must define the size value for each of the products that you want to upload otherwise you cannot upload them from excel.
Creating categories for uploading products:-
if you want to add your products to the right categories then you must define categories for each and every product that you want to upload. You should set these categories from the admin panel. Assign these categories to your products in the excel sheet.
Creating store views:-
Magento provides a powerful feature to have multiple stores and websites within your configuration. To do this, follow these steps:
System >> Manage Stores
From here you can add a new website, store and even store views. Once created, then you can assign your products to a suitable website, store and store view.
Creating samples:-
The best way to understand how products is uploaded in bulk is that first create some sample products that you want to upload and upload them manually. This will give you an idea of what you need to upload the products in bulk. Remember that bundled and downloadable products cannot be uploaded via the import features.
The reason behind this is every excel sheet is different depending on the custom attributes, attribute set and options in each product and product types Therefore the best way of doing this is prepare 10 or 20 products containing all the attribute set and product type variations that you will need.
Exporting products:-
For exporting products use Magento export feature. You can do this by following these steps:
System >> Import / Export >> Export in the admin panel
Follow the excel format:-
Creating the excel sheet for all of your products is the hardest thing to do. So how you will do this? Your excel sheet must be in window comma separated format. If you have only one value per attribute, you will need only one row per product but if you want to assign multiple values for the same products then you are required to add multiple rows for those values.
Import or reindex data:-
Once you completed your excel sheet, it’s time to import your product excel sheet to magento. Now follow the steps:
System >> Import / Export >>Import
Now select your file and click on import. If your file has less than 100 errors then it would be imported. Once you successfully imported all your products you have to refresh the page and then you will receive an index management warning, click the link to update your products. You have to re-index product price, category products and catalog search index. Once done this then check this live.
